Fables Update

I've added a few additional differentiated pages to the fables unit a few minutes ago.  My kids had an enjoyable time working on similes. A few of my babies needed a little extra support.   If you purchased the file this yesterday or today, please link here to redownload.

My kids had a hard time with the metaphor 'you are what you eat' so I changed it to 'time is money'.  SUCCESS!  I did find a minor spelling mistake as we read The Tortoise and The Hare.  JUST TO AIR OUT MY DIRTY LAUNDRY.  (((WINK)))

As always, I appreciate your support!

Here are a few similes created today!

I've listed this fabulous fables mini unit on TpT for $4.  It's on sale for the next week.

I created this fables mini unit to assist my figurative language lessons and align with our weekly selection. Included are fables and figurative language posters, two concept maps, four different fables with aligned vocabulary and follow up activities, writing fables graphic organizer, and scroll paper.

The fables include: The Tortoise and The Hare, The Crow and The Pitcher, The Ant and The Grasshopper, and Belling the Cat.

I used these four Aesop fables to align with Houghton Mifflin Focus on Fables, Theme 2.

I would love to have you follow along at www.primarygraffiti.blogspot.com!

Turkey Disguise and FREE Turkey Project

Hello everyone!  It's been a while since I last posted so I thought I'd start out by giving away a free turkey project for anyone looking for last minute Thanksgiving ideas.  My class made Turkey Table Toppers to save them a place at the Thanksgiving table.  Here's how they turned out.

We also sent home another family project:  "Disguise your Turkey" - save your turkey from being eaten". So much fun!!!!

We are working on finishing our Pilgrim project and will be posting them on my blog soon!  Needing Thanksgiving writing and math center activities?  Visit my blog to see my new Thanksgiving Unit!

Holiday Treats and Resource Binder

Here is a look at my holiday math work stations.  The five games are bundled together for $5.00.  I placed the bundle on sale through tomorrow night for $3.00.  For more information and previews link here.

Did you hear about my states notebook?  The kids have enjoyed learning about the different states from our postcard exchange.  I take my students on a webquest for information.  The links are provided in the file.  We check out the state, flag, seal, quarter, motto, nickname, capital, bird, flower, rank, year the state entered the union, famous people from the state, and additional fun facts.  After our quest, the kids complete a notebook page for their resource binder.  The 111 page file is a free download here.

My kids use the resource binder for everything.  Here are a few pictures of how we use our binders...

Book List

Words available in my resource binder download.

Personal Houghton Mifflin focus walls are available in my store for free.
Narrative Expectations, Rubrics, and Checklist

Weather Journal available in my store for free!
Grade accountability sheets in data notebook download.

My student data notebooks should not be confused with my DAN (Data Analysis Notebook) which contains class averages, graphs, benchmark grades, RtI documentation, safety nets, conference logs, running records, etc.  I maintain this folder weekly.  The data notebook download is for student accountability and has been very successful for my kids.

Easy Thanksgiving Turkey Draw and Cut

Hi!
I thought I would share some pictures of a fun Thanksgiving Turkey project that my students did this week. I am so proud of the way they followed the steps to create them! After they made their turkeys, we brainstormed "turkey" words and then they wrote about their turkey. I was proud of them AGAIN when they could come up with some words about their turkey AND write their words, too!

If you are interested in this project and some more ideas about how to use it in your classroom, visit my TPT store! This is a FREEBIE!

State Notebook

I created this explosive 111 page freebie for my postcard exchange.  The file includes several picture tutorials on creating different notebook artifacts.  I've included all sheets in color and grayscale.  Also included are links to resource websites and book recommendations.
